Aqua Rite Frequently Asked QuestionsHow much salt does the system require? The Aqua Rite works best with approximately 3200 ppm salt, which is roughly the equivalent to a teaspoon per gallon. However, the Aqua Rite will operate with salt levels anywhere from 2700 ppm to 3400 ppm. Will the water taste salty? Generally you should not be able to taste any salt in the pool because the level of salt in the water is so low, however some people with sensitive palates might detect a small amount of salt. Why use the Aqua Rite over traditional chlorine? Traditional chlorine ties up with wastes in the water creating what are called chloramines. The Aqua Rite continuously oxidizes the chloramines and creates "Free Chlorine". Chloramines are what cause common side affects associated with chlorine such as irritation to eyes and skin, bleaching of bathing suits, and that awful chlorine smell. Furthermore you will no longer have to buy, mix or store chlorine, which saves time, money and keeps you from direct contact with a potentially harmful chemical. Will the Aqua Rite work with my existing pool? The Aqua Rite chlorinator will work with any existing pool up to 40,000 gallons. It is compatible with all pool finishes--vinyl, plaster, fiberglass or pebble. Please consult with a pool professional on your specific needs. Will the Aqua Rite work on a portable spa? The Aqua Rite chlorinator is specifically designed for use with in-ground pools, and will not work with portable spas or hot tubs due to its high output. We are currently in the process of designing such a system so please check back periodically. What kind of maintenance do I have to do with this system? Continue to test the chlorine level of the pool on a weekly basis. Adjust the dial of the Aqua Rite chlorinator to adjust more or less chlorine. If there has been a large number of swimmers in the pool or the pool water is cloudy, you can put the Aqua Rite chlorinator into "Super Chlorinate" mode where it will automatically generate the maximum amount of chlorine for 24 hours. The Turbo Cell should be inspected and cleaned if necessary every three months or when starting up the system. For further information on cell cleaning click here. What kind of salt do I use and where can I get it? Salt is now available at many pool stores. It is the same salt commonly found at home improvement centers nationwide for use with home water conditioners. How do I figure out how many gallons of water are in my pool? Pools very in size and shape. Here are a few helpful equations that give you the approximate gallons of water in your pool. What is the warranty and how do I get warranty service? The Aqua Rite chlorinator is backed by the best warranty in the industry. For warranty service simply call the Goldline technical service department at 888-921-7665, Monday through Friday, 8AM to 8PM. Why doesn't the salt reading match a tester? The chlorinator, as well as any tester has a tolerance and when tested, commonly the unit will not read exactly the same as a tester. Most test units as well as the chlorinator have a tolerance of roughly 100-300PPM so seeing readings 400-600PPM off is common. Why is there a decimal point in the salt reading (2.70, 3.10, ect.)? This simply means the unit was switched to read in the metric mode & PPT. Pressing the diagnostic button once will display the temperature in Celsius, with the Celsius temperature displayed, flip the switch to SUPER CHLORINATE, and then back to AUTO and that will force the unit to read Fahrenheit and PPM. What is "SUPER CHLORINATE"? The unit will run in 2 separate polarities and continually switch sides as long as the pump continues to run. The desired output percentage dial will tell the chlorinator how long to generate in each polarity, SUPER CHLORINATE simply tells the unit to ignore the dial setting for 24 hours and generate chlorine @ 100% of its capability. Why do I have to add murriatic acid to the pool? Murriatic acid helps to control the pH in the pool. If the pH rises too high, adding in murriatic acid will lower pH level to a more tolerable level. Alkalinity helps to keep pH from fluctuating wildly but you will still experience fluctuations regardless. Aqua Rite Chlorine Generator Recalibration Instructions When attempting to recalibrate the average salt reading (default reading (92700-3400ppm) ) the pump needs to be running. If the pump is not running, the system will show "NO FLOW", if flashing this is just a warm up process and the unit is waiting for the water to begin moving through the cell to carry the chlorine out to the pool. Once flow is established the unit should begin to display the "POWER" & "GENERATING" lights solid green. Once this happens the cell has just engaged and is trying to measure the salt level. Press the diagnostic button once. The unit then gives the following: Default = what the unit thinks the salt level is due to an average of all previously recorded "instant salt readings" from all of the different polarity changes since the system was installed, or since the last time the unit was recalibrated. First the unit reads the temp, then the voltage in the cell, then the amperage, then it will display the desired output percentage (where you have the dial set to), then next reading is the "instant salt reading", or what the cell thinks the salt level is right at that moment. Then it will show "AL-X", this just tells the technician what type of system they are working on (Aqua Rite, Naturesoft, ect...), and then finally the software revision (r1.XX), this just tells the technician what to look for symptom wise, for instance a certain combination of lights. "Low/ check salt" and "inspect cell" are the most common lights and they are usually on together as the cell is saying it's not sure if the problem is in fact the salt or if it perhaps has a calcium build up. So you will see: - default Now moving the slide switch from "AUTO" to "SUPER CHLORINATE" and then back to "AUTO" on our control box is basically like pressing 'enter' on a computer. If the unit is reading 2700- 3400PPM it is in the standard mode, if it reads 2.70-3.40, it is in the metric mode. If you need to change the reading, press the diagnostic button once to display the temperature. Then slide the switch up to "SUPER CHLORINATE" for a few seconds, as long as the "SUPER CHLORINATE" light illuminates, you can switch back, this should be instantaneous. This procedure will toggle between the two different settings. Also, using the same procedure, "AUTO" to "SUPER CHLORINATE" then back to "AUTO" while showing the 5th reading (if it reads between -2700 up to -3400), the "Instant Salt Reading", this will force the system to forget all of the previous readings and it will recalibrate its self to the new readings and should eliminate the error lights. If it does not, contact technical service at 1-888-921-7665 (Monday-Friday 8am-8pm EST) and who ever answers the line will be able to assist you. |
