How the Solar Control System Works

The Electronic Controller utilizes the existing pool's circulation pump for solar heat pick-up. It works in conjunction with the FloVerter 12VAC valve, or with other manufacturer's 12VAC valves.

The FloVerter Valve controls pool water circulation by the pool's filtration pump - either through the solar collectors, or bypassing the solar collectors. The HM4000 has the additional feature of being able to be used with either 12 or 24 volt valves.

When the controller is signaled by the sensors, and calls for solar heat pick-up, the FloVerter valve immediately activates. The opening "diverter" valve then directs the flow of circulation through the solar collectors using the pool's filtration pump.

The FloVerter valve is a 12VAC 2" valve, utilizes permanent magnetic synchronous motors, and has an extremely low CV.

Technical Specifications for the Helio-Matic HM4000 Combo

The FloVerter is a non-positive seal valve with a small hole located in the diverter, which allows the collector to drain when the system is turned off. This draining prevents collector damage due to cold weather freeze-ups.

Pool Water Sensor
The IS-1.0 sensor is constructed entirely of solid stainless steel, inserted into a drilled hole in the 1 1/2" or 2" plumbing pipe, and easily and quickly fastened in place using a stainless steel hose clamp.

It is then wired into the system, and signals the controller unit with readings on the pool water temperature.

The sensor seals to the pipe with a long-lasting O-ring.

Technical Specifications: The extra durability the virtually indestructible stainless steel sensor brings to the system truly guarantees years of corrosion resistant performance.

Solar Roof Sensor is an all-aluminum sensor block, designed to both quickly and precisely determine solar radiation [sun's rays], and then simulate the internal water temperature of the collector panels caused by the solar absorption.

The sensor instantly signals the controller unit, which sends the required command to the 3-Way FloVerter Valve.

Technical Specifications: The greater surface area of the AS-2-10, combined with the superior conductivity characteristics of aluminum enable the sensor to detect the sun's rays sooner, plus detect when the right amount of solar energy is available.

It also reacts to cloudy conditions and the setting sun more rapidly than other sensors on the market today, thus creating greater heat flow precisely during the critical "solar window" period and avoiding heat loss by not circulating when heat could be lost through reverse process - resulting in a much warmer pool, and a longer more pleasurable swimming experience!
